October 24, 2012

October 24th

Dearest children and grandchildren,

We had a pretty quiet birthday yesterday - the 24th October (quite a difference from from the October 19th). I offered to 'take her out for a 'movie' or a'eat out' somewhere in a Dilli joint if she was willing to go and Sam was available and willing to take the two old people 'out'. She refused though saying she could not think of standing in front of a movie hall at her age and she did not care too much for 'outside food' anyway!  It happened that it was a 'day and night out'   for Min and Sam too had to go to the Airport to met a friend coming from abroad. So settled down to have a quiet evening watching an old movie 'ARZOO'  in the TV. The movie was quite a craze when we were in our teens – and it was a great time to watch a movie together that reminded us  of our former days. I kept telling her how popular the old songs were in those old old days! Later, we had a prayer of thanksgiving on the bed – thanking God for what a great blessing and a great support she has been for me and for all of you throughout all these years.  Perhaps the prayer went a little too long, she went off to sleep before I could conclude! She had said to me not to ask God for her to see more than her 75th birthday. But when I told her that was still a long way off - she said  even 70th birthday should be fine. Anyway, I did not mention the  number of years in my prayer though and left that decision to God! One thing we agreed though was to ask God for not too long a gap between the two 'ends' and we believe the good Lord will permit us that!

Love to all,

Pp

Ps. She did get  a number of 'happy-birthday' calls though throughout the day!

A journey of FAITH is based on a story of LOVE

(personal meditations on Heb 12)

Host of witnesses of people who took the same journey and are now the cheering crowd,
For us to throw off everything that hinders and every sin that entangles
And to run with perseverance the race marked out for us
Only to look unto Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith
Who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame
Now sat down at the right hand of the throne of God

This journey has a happy, joyous and glorious ending
This journey also has lots of trials and hardship along the way
The challenges in the journey served to keep us on tract - the need-based requisite disciplines
These hurdles along the way are but struggles to make us come out stronger and fit
The secret that keep us going is to keep our eyes on the One who had endured even death

The Goal is the Reunion of the ‘lost loved ones’ with the ‘Lover’ – God who is LOVE
The Goal had been set the day the Union was broken in the Garden of Eden
The separation was because the Holy God cannot compromise on His holiness
To make the unholy holy ‘sacrifice’ is what’s needed
Symbol of sacrifice to come, was offered by the high priest in the holy of holy alter on earth,
The fulfillment of the symbol made by the Lamb of God offering Eternal Sacrifice to the throne of God

The exhortation from Mount Sinai was to fear the ‘holy God’ – even to be mindful of the holy mountain
Anyone who transgress was in danger of death as the holy God is a ‘consuming fire’
The mountains shook and people melted in fear when the holy One spoke
The mountain was a burning fire, darkness, gloom and storm;
Trumpet blasts, a fearful voice speaking of fearful words – of demanding holiness from the unholy ones

But today, the exhortation is to come to Mount Zion, the heavenly Jerusalem, city of the Living God
To come to thousands upon thousands of angels, in joyful assembly
To church of the firstborn whose names are written in heaven
To come to God, the judge of all men, the spirits of of righteous men made perfect
To Jesus the mediator of the new covenant
To the sprinkled blood that speak of a better word than the blood of Abel

So the exhortation is not refuse him who speaks and not to turn way from him who warns from heaven,
To receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken
As whatever can be shaken will first be removed
So let us be thankful and worship God acceptably with reverence and awe
Not ever to forget  - God is a consuming fire.

Charting one’s life journey to becoming a rightful citizen of a country whose builder and architect is God

(meditations on Heb 11)
Experience required

·     A walk of Faith

Having Faith (being sure and certain of things hope but not yet seen) that
·       God is
·       To understand God is the Creator of all

Relation with God by Faith
·       God is to be worshipped in spirit with all heart, mind and soul
·       God accepts only true worship
·       God is righteous and hates ungodliness
·       God warns of punishment through things not seen and provide way of escape to those who fear God

The call of God
·       God calls to go to a place he would give later as an inheritance even without knowing where
·       To make home in a foreign country and live in tents
·       To look forward to the CITY with foundations whose architect and builder is God

Walk in Faith
·       Nothing is impossible with God
·       To live in faith till death
·       To see and welcome things hope for in a distance even when not realized in their own lifetime

Walking by Faith on earth
·       To admit being aliens and strangers on earth
·       To show that they are looking for a country of their own
·       To not thinking of the country left behind and not taking the opportunity to return
·       To looking rather for a better country – a heavenly one

God’s relationship with them
·       God not ashamed to be called their God
·       God prepared a city for them

Their attitude towards God
·       Readiness to offer even the most precious (and graciously receiving it back from God)
·       To worship learning on the top of a staff

Preparing the coming generation
·       To bless the future generation
·       To foresee and act upon the future (even if there would be a gap of many years – e.g. Joseph – 400 years)

Faith in Action
·       To see and act in faith and not to be afraid of the king’s edict
·       To refuse to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter
·       To choose to be mistreated along the people of God than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time
·       To see the disgrace of Christ as greater value than the treasures of Egypt because of looking forward to reward
·       Not to fear the king’s anger but to preserve because of seeing the Invisible One
·       To pass through the Red Sea by faith and walk on dry land
·       To march around in faith around the walls of Jericho till they fell
·       To act in faith and not to be killed with those who were disobedient

Power of Faith
·       To conquered kingdoms
·       To administered justice
·       To quench the fury of flames
·       To escape the edges of the sword
·        To turn their weaknesses to strengths
·       To become powerful in battles and rout he enemies
·       To receive back the dead and to see the death raise to life again

Choices by Faith
·       To be tortured and yet refusing to be released as waiting to gain a better resurrection
·       To face jeers and floggings
·       To be chained and put to prisons
·       To be stoned
·       To be sawed into two
·       To be put to death by sword
·       To go about in sheepskins and goatskins
·       To be destitute, persecuted and mistreated
·       To wander in deserts and mountains and in caves and holes in the ground
·       Not to receive as yet what had been promised

In God’s eyes
·       The world not worthy of them
·       God had planned something better – together – to be made perfect
