writing one's name

Our family surname is Ngaihte and our sub-clan is Biangtung
My father wrote his name as B Jamgou and often not add Ngaihte surname
My eldest brother use both and is popularly known as B L Ngaihte
When it came to my turn, I like to use both Biangtung and Ngaihte
But I was also sure it could get shorten as B L Ngaihte
And people could get easily confused me with my eldest sibling
so I wrote it as B Langkham that got expanded as Biangtung Langkham
and often people thought Biangtung is my first name and Langkham as my surname

in turn our children used only our surname and we became the Ngaihte family
Even my wife from a Tonsing family changed her name as Chingnu Ngaihte
So we have Esther N Ngaihte, Mary T Ngaihte Ginlianmung Ngaihte and Samuel G Ngaihte
People often asked our children - 'so you adopt your mom's surname?'

I thought at least in my Facebook i would write it as Langkham Ngaihte omitting the B part of it
Again there are others with similar name, so people got confused
And sometime it landed me into some very very awkward moments
 And people called me up or sent messages which were not really meant for me!

what i though of Dr Saira

Dr Saira Paulose Thomas

Before coming here today I asked my wife why once she remarked that Dr Saira could have been in the ‘IAS’. The first thing you noticed of Dr Saira is her friendly but upright, strong and firm personality. She appears to have quite a good dose of God given intuitive ability to quickly discern right and wrong, good or bad, how much (of praise or softness or even toughness) is enough and most of all an ability to be firm when needed and be strong when it is called for! 

As her senior in the area of HIV/AIDS, what is that I observed? I found her to be some one who can be counted upon once you hand over the steering wheel. Get her settled in the seat, teach her the basics and thereafter, trust her to run it and run it to her best and that means running it pretty well.

Her leadership style is one of leading from the front. She believes in team leadership and work well with second line or upcoming leaders. She is able to give them space – space to think and act on their own. In fact I see in her leading a team of young people who themselves are leaders in the making. I believe she has done a good job in mentoring future leaders for missions.

As a senior EHA staff, what is important is, am I, are You, Are We, - an embodiment of the vision and mission of Emmanuel Hospital Association?

·      Being part of a Fellowship – enjoying being part of the fellowship – of sailing together through all weathers – the manner of fellowship as we find in the epistle of 1 John Chapter 1.

·      Transformation – on transforming of all – you and me – the focus on transformation – growing transformed in the image of our God day by day

·      Caring – caring of the whole person – body, soul and spirit – in your professional life – in your family and social life, in your spiritual life – a caring attention to each area.

How would we rate Dr Saira whom we bid farewell today? As Shalom Delhi today could we say that she indeed is an embodiment – in her fellowship with us, her transforming relationship with us and in her caring ways – caring words, caring deeds and caring thoughts and prayers? I believe it’s a resounding Yes.

Lastly but perhaps not the least in the case of Dr Saira is about hospitality. In the New Testament – Paul’s favourite word is ‘hospitality’. Saira is best known to many EHA leaders for her hospitality. Her home is where you can go and stay for perhaps as long as you need to do. Its just that you have to make yourselves comfortable – don’t expect her to give extra efforts to make you comfortable (except beyond giving you breakfast even they mostly go without it). You are part of the family as long as you are there – the kitchen, the bathroom, the spare beds, the floor and what have you - all are yours - all you need to do is – just be at home in their home! If you want to try out – I suggest you visit her in Raxaul?

Lawibual khua taw kisai hiaite kon chiamteh thak di

In the year 1894 around the month of September Lawibual village was established by Pu Goutual and his team of migrants.

Pu Goutual Guite, the 4th son of Paolun Guite, was borned at Lailou village in Chin Hills in 1833 and died in his established village on 31 Jan 1938. He was a great fighter and hunter and killed 15 enemies, 2 elephants, 10 tigers, 3 bears and 120 other beasts.his memorial stone was erected on 18th March 1938. 

He was married to to Pi Khamdim Leivang, who was borned at Bevuak village in Lushai Hills in the year 1842 who died on 14th Oct 1937.

He had 3 grand sons and the eldest Pu Tualkhanthang Guite took over as Chief of the village. His mother Pi Phalching was borned in 1870 who died in the year 1965 July the 13th. her memorial stone was erected by Pu Khanthang in the year 1966 March 24th.

when Lawibual was established Pu Goutual was about 61 years old, Pi Khamdim 52, Pi Phalching 24 and Pu Khanthang 6. 

Pu Khanthang was married to Pi Vungkhongai sister of Pu Kaisut Sonna.

I will add the other names of the first settlers of Lawibual who included my grandfather Vunglian f/o Jamngou Ngaihte (as I somehow misplaced the names of earliest settlers).

When I set out to focus on the north east, what I saw was that we have not contribute much to the region, to the rest of India, nay even to the world at large, what we can for the common good. Even the hurdles surrounding us may be turned around to show good models of success. The focus of attention most needed is to build up human resources: to be leaders in all walks of life. They would need some guidance, encouragement and opportunity that would sharpen their skills and self beluef and confidence. Together must we contribute together. Some I know would outshine and outgrow me soon. But that doesnot deter me from my chosen path of helping others to be their very best. I would rejoice with them as they grow bigger and become more successful. To their crown of glory would I find fulfillment of my vision. 
I see NE giving to the rest of India and to the rest of the world. I know this is our mandate from a force higher than ourselves.
